Potential Louis van Gaal successor handed ultimatum amid Manchester United speculation

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola will have to give the German giants an answer about his future by the end of the week according to reports.

According to The Sun, the Spaniard is under pressure to make a decision on whether or not he will extend his stay in Bavaria, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the campaign.

Having guided the club to success during his tenure thus far, Bayern will arguably hope to continue moving forward with the former Barcelona boss, but naturally, they are eager to plan ahead in the event that Guardiola opts to move on.

While Louis van Gaal has come under immense pressure this week after seeing his side eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage ahead of a loss to Bournemouth on Saturday, question marks continue to linger over the Dutchman’s head at Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen whether or not a change is made before the end of the season, and although it has previously been reported that Guardiola is not coming under consideration as a possible successor, he could yet appear on United’s radar if they are starting to assess their options.

Manchester City and Chelsea will also likely be monitoring his situation as the 44-year-old has also been linked with moves to the Etihad and Stamford Bridge respectively, as noted by the Metro, and so it promises to be an intriguing start to 2016 as the Premier League giants consider their next move.
