Rio Ferdinand has taken time to pay tribute to his former Manchester United defensive partner Nemanja Vidic, who announced his retirement from the game this week.

Having had his contract unceremoniously terminated by Italian giants Inter Milan earlier this month, the 34-year-old opted to hang up his boots instead of seeking out new opportunities elsewhere.

And upon the news, Ferdinand took to his Facebook page to post a touching tribute to the man he patrolled the United defence with for eight successful seasons and became one half of the most formidable central defensive partnership with.

Vidic was a virtual unknown when he arrived at Old Trafford back in 2006, and Ferdinand gives an insight into how the Serbian inter nation won over the skeptics in the United dressing room.
