Manchester United at risk of losing starlet as he emerges on radar of European giants

As they contemplate life without Zlatan Ibrahimovic next season, Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly targeting Manchester United striker Anthony Martial to replace him.

The Swedish international confirmed on social media this week that he would be leaving the French capital this summer with his contract set to expire.

In turn, that has sparked the Ligue 1 champions into an analysis of the transfer market in their search for a striker to take Ibrahimovic’s place up front.

According to L’Equipe, that search has taken them to Manchester where Martial has made a major impact since his arrival from Monaco last summer.

The 20-year-old has scored 17 goals this season after question marks were initially raised over United’s decision to spend so heavily on a relatively untested teenager.

While the Premier League giants will naturally have ambitions of holding onto the French international to ensure he establishes himself as a fundamental part of their future, it remains to be seen if they can successful ward off interest from PSG.

Laurent Blanc is believed to be searching for a forward capable of playing on the left flank, as he plans to deploy Edinson Cavani through the middle next season.

While Martial isn’t going to be the only name on their transfer shortlist, the report will leave United fans slightly anxious given their own on-going troubles on the pitch.

Louis van Gaal’s side are likely to miss out on Champions League football next season, and that could come into play if Martial is put in a position where he has to consider his future.

An exit from Manchester after such a successful first season with the club would seemingly make little sense, but it will be difficult for him to avoid the money and promises of silverware that PSG can offer.
