Chelsea striker set to leave and join up with Rafa Benitez

Rafa Benitez may have been unable to stave off Newcastle United’s relegation, but he plans on bringing in some bright Premier League talents to ensure they get right back into the Premier League next year.

According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle are in pursuit of £10 million-rated Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford – who the club tried to acquire last summer before the Blues refused to sell him at a discount. But after a disappointing season in which he fell down the depth chart before being shipped off to Crystal Palace and Norwich City on loan spells, Chelsea are apparently ready to sell.

Bamford has struggled transitioning his skillset into the Premier League, failing to score in any of his ten first-team appearances for either Crystal Palace or Norwich, but found a nice niche in the Championship division the season before with Middlesbrough. In the 2014-15 season, Bamford scored 17 goals in 38 appearances for the club, plus two goals between the FA Cup and League Cup.

Newcastle United were relegated in the 2015-16 season, their first time since 2010.
