Emre Can reveals what role he wants at Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has revealed that he wants a leadership role in the midfield next season.

Can believes he already has leadership qualities but also admitted that he faces competition from captain Jordan Henderson and the experienced James Milner as the leader in midfield.

The 23-year-old does however, believe he now has sufficient experience in the Reds midfield and that he will prove himself over the 2016-17 campaign.

“Yes of course. I have played a lot of games for Liverpool now and know I am still young but I have to show it on the pitch now,” Can was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

“I can say I am a leader but you have to show it. Of course we have other leaders like Hendo or Milner. We all want to do it.

“I am like that. I want to be the one pushing the team on of course. As I said I want to show that to everyone.”

Can only returned to Liverpool pre-season training last week after an extended break following his role for Germany at Euro 2016.

The Germany international of Turkish origin played in the semi-finals against hosts France.

The hard working midfielder made his first pre-season appearance this summer against Italian giants Roma in a friendly game in the US earlier in the week.

Can has been tipped as being a potential for future Liverpool captain but is unlikely to take the armband off Henderson this season.
