Jurgen Klopp blocks midfielder move to Galatasaray

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has blocked the transfer of experienced midfielder Lucas Leiva until a replacement is brought in according to the Echo.

Per the source, Klopp has vetoed Lucas leaving until the club brings in defensive cover. The Liverpool manager is facing a crisis in defence with Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all sidelined. The Reds also sold Slovakian international defender Martin Skrtel to Fenerbahce on a three-year deal and parted ways with Kolo Toure.

The 29-year-old midfielder is also capable of playing defensive roles and filled in as a centre-back at times last season.

The Brazilian midfielder has been closely linked with a move to Galatasaray but it now seems that the transfer has been put on hold at least temporarily.

NTV Spor report that the Istanbul giants are prepared to offer €3 million for the midfielder and that they have already agreed personal terms with Lucas.

The central midfielder joined Galatasaray nine years ago from Gremio and he is currently the most experienced player in the squad.
