Aston Villa outcast set to seal imminent exit after completing medical

Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott is reportedly on the verge of securing a move to Greek outfit AEK Athens after passing a medical.

The 34-year-old has been put up for sale by Villa this summer, with Roberto Di Matteo strengthening his squad with the signings of Tommy Elphick and James Chester.

Having been part of the disastrous team last year which won just three games in the Premier League all season, the writing had been on the wall for Lescott for some time.

The former Everton and Manchester City defender has yet to feature for the club in the Championship this season, and it doesn’t appear as though he’ll still be in the West Midlands by the time the international break comes to an end.

The Greek Footy Twitter account confirmed the news on Monday morning, before AEK sent out a tweet of their own with an image of Lescott as he now looks set to put pen-to-paper on a deal with the club.

His departure will likely be met with widespread relief from the Villa faithful after his poor displays on the pitch, while he also enraged the supporters with his actions off it.

From claiming that he accidentally sent out an image of his expensive car after a humiliating home defeat to Liverpool when his phone was in his pocket to suggesting that relegation was a “weight off the shoulders”, as noted by ESPN FC, he did little to endear himself to fans and will now look forward to starting a new chapter in his career.
