Aston Villa flop closing in on a move to Turkish side who finished 12th last season

Turkish side Trabzonspor are closing in on a deal to sign former England international Micah Richards, report Tribal Football.

Tribal Football report that Trabzonspor manager Ersun Yanal is an admirer of Richards and is interested on taking him to Turkey during the January transfer window.

This comes just days after the Mirror claimed that Aston Villa were prepared to listen to offers for the 28-year-old in the summer, but none were forthcoming. The Mirror also believe that he is deemed as surplus to requirements at the Championship side.

Richards began his career at Manchester City, where he made 245 appearances across ten years. His time at City was tainted by injury and he eventually left in search of regular game-time. After a brief spell on loan at Fiorentina, he signed for Aston Villa, where he was immediately named club captain. It wasn’t a move that paid off for either himself or the club, though, as they were relegated from the Premier League and he had a disastrous campaign on a personal level.

It has been an unforgiving demise for a player who was once a regular in the England national team setup. He could well be playing at the team that finished 12th in the Turkish Super Lig come the winter transfer window.
