Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano explains Arsenal’s stance on Gabriel Jesus amid striker transfer interest

Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano has clarified Arsenal’s stance on Gabriel Jesus amid the Gunners pursuing a major signing up front in the upcoming summer window.

Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano denied that there as any indication that Jesus’ future at the Emirates Stadium could be in doubt if another big-name centre-forward comes in this summer.

It’s not been the easiest season for Jesus at Arsenal, with the Brazil international often struggling to stay fit, while his record when he has played hasn’t exactly been the most prolific either, meaning another signing in that position surely makes sense.

Arsenal fans will have had high hopes for Jesus when he joined from rivals Manchester City, but at the moment it’s easy to imagine there’ll be a fair few who haven’t been entirely convinced by what he’s contributed so far.

Still, Romano seems adamant that Jesus remains part of Mikel Arteta’s plans, as Arsenal will need a big squad for next season anyway.

Jesus transfer: Romano doesn’t see the Brazilian striker leaving Arsenal

“I’ve spoken on here about Arsenal being likely to sign an important striker this summer, and Gabriel Jesus has spoken publicly about the situation and what he feels he can do to persuade the club not to make a signing in that position,” Romano wrote in his latest column.

“Still, I don’t think a new striker coming in would mean anything for Jesus. He’s an important player for Arsenal; also, they have a top roaster for a top team and also with eight UCL games in the group next season plus all the other competitions you always need at least two important strikers. That’s why it doesn’t change anything for his future – Gabriel Jesus remains part of Arsenal plans.”

He added: “Let’s see if he can recover his best fitness and then I’m sure he can show what an important role he can play in Mikel Arteta’s side.”

  1. Wow, an actual exclusive brain fart stating the obvious from a guy who reads and repeats tabloid rumours for a living.

  2. Sell Gabriel Jesus in Summer and snatch Samu Omorodion, who has a 53 million pounds release clause, from Atletico Madrid. Do not allow them to renegotiate his release clause as news have it that they desperately want to do.
The 6’4″ speed monster who is on loan with Alaves are the kind of top strikers we need.
