Egypt got the better of Algeria in this typically bad tempered encounter with Hosni Abou Rabou netting the first goal after Algeria had been reduced to ten men when Halliche was sent off. Mohamed Zidan scored a second to kill off any chance of comeback from the Desert Foxes who’s woes continued when they found themselves down to nine men when Nadir Belhadj was red carded. An Abdel-Shafy goal ended the game as a contest and gave Egypt an unassailable three goal lead. To add insult to injury Faouzi Chaouchi was the third player to see red for Algeria and Gado scored a fourth.
A last gasp goal from Kader Keita appeared to be enough to see Ivory Coast past Algeria in this pulsating African Nations Cup tie but Majid Bougherra scored a dramatic equalizer to force extra time and Hameur Bouazza then put Algeria ahead in extra time.
A stunning strike from Antar Yahia earned Algeria a place in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after a bad tempered encounter between the two north African nations.

Algeria take on Egypt in what will be one hell of a bone shattering grudge match. The two countries do not get on and clearly the Egyptian support are keen on scaring their opposition into submission and hence throw large amounts of rocks at their team coach. Egypt have to beat the Group leaders by at least two goals to have any chance of making it to South Africa. Oh yes, its worth noting that during this attack four players were injured, now you would have thought that would be enough to punish the home team in some way but we would be surprised if FIFA act in anyway whatsoever, such is their ineptitude.
