Spurs midfielder to return to the Bundesliga

by jakepjohnson on July 2nd, 2008 194 words | 2 comments

Despite winning the German Young Player of the Year award only two years ago, this Tottenham midfielder finds himself given the cold shoulder by Juande Ramos.

It is for this reason that Kevin-Prince Boateng has sought out a move, albeit on-loan, to Bundesliga side Stuttgart. The 21-year-old was signed for £4.5million from Hertha Berlin in 2007, but he has failed to hold down a regular place at White Hart Lane, leading to him looking back to the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart have expressed an interest in the midfielder, but his agent Jorg Neubauer telling Stuttgarter Nachrichten his client prefers Die Roten:

Kevin has decided on Stuttgart, now the two clubs have to agree.

The deal looks to be sealed very soon, with Stuttgart’s general manager Horst Held confirming the move:

Boateng is a very interesting player. We are in talks.

Spurs have yet to see the best of the former Young German Player of the Year. Perhaps Ramos is building a new side without him and wants to let Boateng play to get the best possible fee for him in January. Or maybe he is just being nice to the lad and letting him finally get some playing time.

Wantaway Arsenal winger claims Premier League is the best

Not that it’s going to stop him leaving the Emirates if he and his agent have their way. Alexander Hleb had just started to peak for Arsenal when, all of a sudden, he goes out for an ice cream in Milan and comes back to London with his head full of ideas about playing for Inter. Setanta report that the Belarussian has described the Premier League as the best in the world, although also explains that the poor lamb has found it tough going in England. Who’s going to get the violin out for this millionaire footballer?

“I have learned in England that there is still so much to improve,” said Hleb in Frankfurter Allgemeine.

“I have always dreamed of playing in a great club. Now I have learned that it is not so easy and a lot of work.

“The first year was a killer. I felt very lonely.

“It was clear that The Premier League would be a challenge – but with this pace, I have not expected this.

“The Bundesliga is still a good league, but a season in England feels like two in Germany.

“I will tell you an example: When I was here at the beginning, everything went chop chop, so fast. The pace was madness, even in training.

“I look for the ball in front of me, then where I can play it – when I looked down again the ball was gone.

“The English league is the best league in the world.”

Is this Hleb trying to curry sympathy with Arsenal fans before he says his goodbyes and jumps ship? Real Madrid are now reported to be the front-runner for his signature and it’s hard to see Arsene Wenger keeping the player against his will.

What’s this? A player wanting to stay with Arsenal!

by stresster on May 9th, 2008 378 words | 14 comments

It’s hard not to feel sorry for Arsene Wenger at the moment. The Frenchman is arguably the best manager in the world, given what he has achieved for Arsenal, yet it appears that several of his key players are unlikely to be at the Emirates Stadium next season. Mathieu Flamini has buggered off to Milan without so much as a whimper, Alexander Hleb has done a great impersonation of a snake in the grass and has a foot out of the exit door, while Emmanuel Adebayor apparently wants double or quits as far as his salary is concerned.

However, The Guardian report that every cloud has a silver lining. Just as Jerry Maguire appeared to be walking out of the office on his tod, the character played by Renee Zellweger stood up and joined him. In Renee’s place at Arsenal is young Nicklas Bendtner, who has shunned the likes of Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen to stay with Arsenal. At last some loyalty being shown at Arsenal!

Bayern indicated via an intermediary that they were prepared to pay €10m for the striker and the other two Bundesliga clubs also made their interest known. “I have heard about these offers from Germany but Nicklas will stay at Arsenal,” said Thomas Bendtner, his father. “The only way things could be different was if something unexpected should happen, such as him being moved totally outside of the team, but it’s difficult to see that happening as he is playing right now.”

Bendtner, 20, has made 39 appearances this season, 16 as a starter, and has scored nine goals. “I’ve always said that Arsenal is my club and that’s where I want to play my football,” he said. “When you look at my season and the way it has developed, I see no reason why I should want to change Arsenal with any other club.”

Until next season, when he’s scored 25 goals and the Milans and the Madrids of this world come a-calling! Let’s hope that the likes of Adebayor and Fabregas remain with the club, rather than see us witness the fragmentation of such an excellent footballing side. Money is talking louder than ever at the moment though, and retaining them for one more year might just be stemming the tide.

Arsenal just can’t get rid of Lehman!

by stresster on January 12th, 2008 144 words | 7 comments
  • Digg

Just when you thought it was safe to assume the Premier League would be free from a certain mad German goalkeeper, the Daily Telegraph have reported that Jens Lehman is staying put at Arsenal – for the time being at least. It appeared the German number one was bound for Borussia Dortmund but ‘personal reasons’ have got in the way.

Despite his lack of action in the Premiership, Lehmann said in a statement: “Although it would have been a very attractive challenge to play again in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, I have decided against this step for private reasons.”

What could these ‘personal reasons’ be? A massive drop in salary perhaps? Or is Jens eyeing an FA Cup winner’s medal for the Gunners after they progressed against Burnley and were effectively handed a bye in the next round against Newcastle or Stoke.
