Venables says NO to Leeds – will O’Leary say YES?

Terry Venables has snubbed the vacant managerial post at Newcastle United after a discussion with the club’s current and messed-up owner Mike Ashley on Friday morning.

The former England coach had admitted on Thursday that he was interested in working at Newcastle, who are currently going through an institutional crisis. But he has decided not to take up the offer, even though Ashley was ready to pay him a massive £100,000 a match.

So who now is the new favourite for the Toon job? The answer is a certain David O’Leary, who has been out of the job since 2006.

The former Leeds United boss is thought to be interested in the job precisely for the fact that he wants to return to football management. When Kevin Keegan was appointed Newcastle manager, he admitted that he had not watched a live Premier League game for three years. Now the club are looking to appoint another boss who has been out of the game for some time.

So is this another disaster waiting to happen?
