Tottenham deny reports linking them to Manchester City: They’re taking action against the filthy rag in question

Here’s a surprise for all you COS readers. Tottenham have denied speaking to Mark Hughes about the not-so-vacant manager’s position, and they are preparing to take action against the newspaper who were clearly struggling for something to fill their Friday back page. Poor form chaps!

Sky Sports report that The Sun’s lame attempt to whip up some speculation about Juande Ramos’ future at Tottenham has fallen flat on its face, a shame that the story didn’t even last until lunchtime! It comes as little surprise to learn that Spurs have not spoken to the Man City manager, who has only been at Eastlands for a matter of months.

“The club largely refrains from making statements of this nature unless absolutely necessary in order to set the record straight in light of wholly inaccurate reporting,” read the statement on the club’s official website.

“An article on the back page of this morning’s Sun newspaper reports that the club has made an offer to Mark Hughes to take over as manager during the forthcoming international break.

“This story is completely untrue and without foundation and the matter is being discussed with the publication.”

There’s one thing spinning a story to get a particular angle, but it’s another thing entirely when you make up a story just to sell newspapers! Needless to say, The Sun have now taken down the story from their website, and replaced it with Joe Kinnear’s foul-mouthed expletives. There’s probably a ‘journalist’ who’s on the receiving end of something similar as we speak!
