Since the Abu Dhabi United Group took over at Eastlands, there have been several thousand players linked to Manchester City! Newspaper journalists have gone into rumour overdrive, linking the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas, Thierry Henry and Steven Gerrard with a move to the richest club in the Premier League. However, there may be some substance in this latest report.
Sky Sports reports that Amr Zaki, the man who currently leads the goalscoring charts, has attracted interest from the powers-that-be at City. The Wigan striker has scored eight goals this season, including a brace at Liverpool on Saturday, and the Latics only have the player on a season-long loan at the moment. Unfortunately for them, the Egyptian has performed so well that the chances of the player signing permanently at the JJB seem increasingly remote.
The Eastlands outfit are looking to build a squad capable of challenging for silverware at home and abroad and have identified the powerful Zaki as the ideal candidate to lead their attack.
El Zamalek confirmed that they are set to hold discussions with City in the coming days in a bid to resolve Zaki’s long-term future.
A statement from the Egyptian club read: “A Zamalek delegation will fly to either Manchester or Abu Dhabi, not determined yet, to hold talks with City representatives over Zaki.”
Wigan supporters must be gutted to hear of this latest turn of events, although at least they currently have a forward on their books who is scoring goals for fun. Surely every Manchester City would like to see the North African signing for City, especially if he continues to score so prolifically for Athletic?
