St James’ Park to welcome new signing?
Newcastle United have stepped up their interest in young French midfielder Florian Thauvin and are preparing a £1.5million for the teenage star who has also been watched by Arsenal.
Thauvin, who plays for Bastia in Ligue 1, is one of the hottest talents in France with the 19-year-old midfielder also been watched by Lille, who only recently sold French international defender Mathieu Debuchy to Newcastle.
Thauvin, a French under-20 international, has played 20 times for Bastia this season and found the net three times, but has just 18 months left on his contract and is ready for a move to the Premier League despite the interest from Lille, the Newcastle Evening Chronicle report.
Newcastle’s transfer activity has centred in France this month with Debuchy, Loic Remy, who opted to join Queens Park Rangers instead, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang among the transfer targets.
Their had been reports that Bastia had opened talks with Arsenal, but the French club issued a statement denying any contact. “Sporting Club de Bastia categorically denies the discussions with Arsenal about Florian Thauvin,” the statement read.
