Tottenham and West Ham are locked in a battle to sign Lyon youngster Samuel Umtiti according to the Daily Mirror.

The 19 year old Cameroon born French Under 20 international has impressed scouts from both London clubs this term and Lyon’s financial woes mean that the Ligue 1 side may well relent to offers for the adaptable defender, though this source claims it would take as much as £10m to land the youngster.

Umtiti can play at centre back or as a left-back and came to Tottenham’s attention when he scored a corker at White Hart Lane during a Europa League encounter earlier this season.

Both Premier League sides will have to battle AC Milan in the race to sign the teenager, who has made 24 starts in all competitions for Remi Garde’s high-flying Ligue 1 side.

Having brought in Hugo Lloris from the Stade Gerland last summer Andre Villas-Boas may feel he could tempt Lyon into selling another of their talents to the White Hart Lane side at the end of the current campaign.
