Manchester City handed boost in bid to sign Eriksen.Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has conceded that star player Christian Eriksen will not be renewing his contract with the Amsterdam club.
According to talkSPORT, the former Arsenal winger told Voetbal International that Eriksen will assess his situation in the summer.
“Christian has informed us that he will not sign a new contract now,” he said. “I think he and his agent want to see what their options are in the summer.”
The 21-year-old Denmark international has been on the radar of many of Europe’s top clubs for a few years now after impressing in the Netherlands. Ajax are famed for producing quality young talent such as him, but are equally famed for having to sell them on to bigger clubs when they come calling.
Manchester City are known to be keen on recruiting an attacking midfielder of his type this summer, and have been linked with another promising player lighting up the Eredevisie, Adam Maher of AZ Alkmaar. Tottenham and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation with Eriksen, while interest in Serie A comes from Inter and AC Milan.
The player himself has not yet given an indication as to where he will be playing next season. All that is clear for now is that his time at Ajax is surely coming to an end.
