Manchester City are desperate to land Malaga starlet Isco, and hope that their appointment of Manuel Pellegrini from the club will help make that happen, according to the Sun.

The 21-year-old Spaniard is widely regarded as one of the best young players in La Liga and perhaps the world, and may be tempted work with Pellegrini again after developing well under his management at Malaga.

Pellegrini is yet to be confirmed as the new City boss, but it has been a poorly-kept secret that the Chilean has been in talks with the club even before the sacking of Roberto Mancini.

A number of other targets of Pellegrini’s have already been signed by City, with the 59-year-old thought to have requested Shakhtar’s Fernandinho and Sevilla’s Jesus Navas himself, and it is likely Isco will soon follow.

The attacking midfielder can operate as a playmaker, giving City more options to take the workload off David Silva, and is also a reliable source of goals from midfield, which should make him a very useful signing.

Chelsea and PSG have also been keen on signing him, but City will be the favourites once Pellegrini’s appointment is made official.
