But bad news for Chelsea as striker’s mum reveals front-runners for his signature.
Manchester City have received a boost today from an unlikely source according to The Sun. It is being reported that Napoli striker Edinson Cavani’s mum has spoken out about her son’s ongoing transfer saga.
The Uruguayan forward is currently one of the most sought after players in football after a highly impressive season which saw him land the Serie A top goalscorer award and fire Napoli into a second-placed finish.
Those performances have not gone unnoticed with a number of top European sides thought to be preparing summer bids.
Now Cavani’s mum has revealed who the current front-runner’s for his signature are. She stated that Spanish giants Real Madrid are already in talks with Napoli, as are Premier League Manchester City.
Contrary to reports though, she went on to say that Chelsea have failed to make a firm approach to Napoli for her son’s signature.
Cavani is known to have a release fee clause in his contract thought to be in the region of £53 million.
That is a figure that Manchester City and Real Madrid are likely to be happy to meet but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will throw their hat into the ring.
It is thought that Stamford Bridge officials are instead to conduct a deal involving Spanish striker Fernando Torres travelling in the other direction.
