Manchester City are considering a move for Lazio defender Stefan Radu to fill the void left by departing squad players, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old Romanian can play both centre-back and left-back, and would be a useful addition as a squad player at the Etihad Stadium, with both Joleon Lescott and Aleksandar Kolarov likely to be sold in this transfer window.

Radu would cost around £15million, and played mostly as a left-back for Lazio this season, getting forward to score three goals for the club.

His experience and versatility would be useful for new City manager Manuel Pellegrini, who has been known to be targeting new defenders this summer after being linked with the likes of Real Madrid’s Pepe and Adil Rami of Valencia.

This need for reinforcements at the back is due to the likely departures of Lescott and Kolarov, who are targets for Galatasaray and Inter Milan, respectively.

Both players have had mixed times since joining City, starting out as regular starters for the club but dropping down to backup players as new names have continued to be brought in by the club’s wealthy owners.

Their time now appears to be up at City, as the club’s new manager will be particularly keen to put his own stamp on the squad inherited from previous manager Roberto Mancini.
