Magpies likely to focus on landing Remy
Newcastle United have reportedly dropped out of the race to sign Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, according to Sky Sports.
The Magpies had been heavily linked with a move for the French international striker and having already had an initial bid rejected they upped their offer to £6.9 million last week, however, the Ligue 1 side were apparently holding out for a bigger bid.
Toon boss Alan Pardew had set his sights on the player nicknamed ‘Baby Drogba’ after watching him notch up 18 league goals for Les Gones last season, but will now most likely turn his attentions toward signing QPR forward Loic Remy instead.
Remy, who joined QPR during the January transfer window this year was one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dismal season that saw the Loftus Road outfit relegated back to the Championship despite some heavy spending. The 26-year-old managed to bag six goals in 14 appearances for the west London side and has been largely linked with a move away this summer.
It is thought that Remy will join up with the Magpies on a season-long loan deal with a view of turning it into a permanent move next summer if all goes well.
