Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac has rubbished speculation about a move to Newcastle this summer, reports Sky Sports.

The Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Sports Direct Arena this summer, but claims his future lies with Marseille and is not interested in a move this summer. Scoring 18 goals in all competitions last season, he attracted the interest of the Toon who were keen on making a £7million bid for his services.

“You think I would say, having turned the tide, that I’m going? You don’t know me well. I have never wanted to leave. [The links with Newcastle] and the rest, it is all bull****.” He said in an interview with L’Equipe. The boyhood Marseille fan has no interest in seeking pastures new, leaving Newcastle to pursue other options this summer.

The 27-year old striker would’ve joined Newcastle’s growing number of French players at their club, as well as giving them more attacking options. Pairing up with Papiss Cisse would give Newcastle a pair of talented forwards to help them escape relegation this season and move onward and upwards towards the top half of the Premier League.

Director of Football Joe Kinnear claims that Newcastle are ‘very, very close’ to agreeing a deal to sign QPR forward Loic Remy on a season long loan deal, and the player has travelled up to Newcastle for a medical this afternoon.
