Brazilian ace seals move to Ukrainian champions.
Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk have confirmed the signing of Brazilian international midfielder Bernard from Atletico Mineiro, Sky Sports reports.
He has penned a five-year deal with the club and joins for a fee in the region of £20 million.
Earlier this week the 20-year-old had denied that there was a deal in place between the two but that he was intending to travel to Eastern Europe in order to take a closer look at the facilities and set up surrounding the side before putting pen-to-paper on any kind of agreement.
“It’s just a visit, there won’t be any medical. Nothing is certain and I won’t sign any documents,” he’d been quoted as saying.
“I made it clear to them that I would only visit so that I could see their facilities.”
The news will come as a blow to Premier League pair Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as well as Portuguese champions Porto as all three had held a long running interest in the player, but Mineiro president Alexandre Kalil had claimed that none of the sides had even come close to matching the price that Atletico had set.
Bernard will likely feel at home in the Shakhtar squad as they currently have 12 Brazilians in their first team.
