Tottenham are plotting a move for Real Betis starlet Alvaro Vadillo as they plan for life without Gareth Bale according to the Daily Express.

The Welsh international departure looks increasingly likely after Real Madrid stepped up their pursuit and Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has already started to outline possible replacements.

Reports from Spain suggest that Tottenham had scouts watching the 18-year-old Spaniard during Betis friendly against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Monday and the club have now reportedly started preliminary negotiations for Vadillo.

The Daily Mail had earlier reported that Arsenal were also interested in the Betis wonderkid and the two North London clubs could now go head-to-head for the teenager.

Betis club president Miguel Guillen has insisted it would take a large bid for the La Liga club to part with one of the finest young talents in Spain with a £17.3m release-clause understood to be part of his current contract.

Guillen said: “The club’s intention is that Vadillo shall stay at Betis. For us to allow our young prodigy to depart, there would have to be a very strong financial benefit for the club.
“Vadillo has a great future in front of him, and we are very excited thinking about what he is going to bring to us during this coming season.”

Vadillo became the second youngest player to play in La Liga after making his debut as a 16-year-old against Granda in August 2011 and he also starred for Spain during the recent European U-19 Championship.

The left winger has been compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo due to his composure on the ball, strong dribbling ability and superb decision making.
