West Ham are lining up a bid for Porto winger Silvestre Varela as they search for attacking options, according to the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are looking to add quality and depth to their attacking options this summer, considering Andy Carroll and Joe Cole’s injury history, along with the inconsistent play of other forwards at the club. Porto are not actively looking to sell Varela this summer, but are willing to do business if a £6.5million offer is made.

Turkish side have already seen a £5million offer turned down for the 28-year old this summer, and Sam Allardyce is heavily considering making a move for the Portuguese winger. Varela is flattered by the Hammers’ interest and claims it’s a good sign for him. ‘To be linked with a club who value me is a good sign. It is pleasing to hear that.’

West Ham lost a number of forwards this summer, including loanee’s Marouane Chamakh and Wellington Paulista, who both returned to their parent clubs, along with Carlton Cole and Robert Hall, with both leaving on free transfers. The East-London club are keen on signing a right-sided forward this summer, and see Varela as an ideal summer addition.

The Irons have missed out on a number of targets this summer. The Likes of Salomon Kalou, Emmanuel Emenike and Marko Arnautovic have all been linked with a move to Upton Park, however, none of these players look set to join. They appear to have rekindled their interest in Stewart Downing, as Liverpool are ready to sell for £5million.
