Everton are considering the possibility of making a loan bid for Manchester City star Gareth Barry according to The Guardian.

The Toffees are currently making contingency plans in case Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini leaves the club.

Fellaini was the subject of a joint bid, alongside team-mate Leighton Baines, from Manchester United.

The Premier League champions are currently being managed by former Everton boss David Moyes and the Scotsman is keen to put his own mark on the team.

That could see Fellaini depart for Old Trafford, despite having been an integral part of the Goodison Park club’s side over the last few seasons.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez does not want to be caught short should Fellaini leave and is considering potential replacements for the midfielder.

He has reportedly identified Gareth Barry as the man for the job, with Manchester City having told Barry they will not stand in his way should he decide to leave.

Barry knows he is unlikely to receive as much first team football this season following the arrival of Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk.

But the midfielder remains keen on playing as regularly as possible as he looks to book himself in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for next summer’s World Cup.

That could pave the way for Barry making the short trip to Goodison on a season-long loan basis.
