North London club are presently in the middle of an astonishing multimillion-pound recruitment drive.
Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up making a move for in-demand Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen this summer, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The highly rated young Denmark international has already made clear his desire to quit the Eredivisie champions before the close-season transfer window closes for business for the year on Sept 2.
Eriksen’s current contract at the Amsterdam ArenA now only runs until June 30 2014 and with the player understood to have so far refused all attempts by his employers to put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him in the Netherlands beyond next summer, Ajax are said to be desperate to offload the 21-year-old for a cut-price fee now rather than risk losing the Dane for nothing next year.
However, so far interest in the player, who has been with Ajax for his whole career to date, has been surprisingly limited, with only Liverpool having expressed a genuine desire to sign Eriksen this summer, although as yet, the Reds have yet to follow up their initial keenness with an actual offer for the attacking midfield player.
And now with the north Londoners set to be flush with the imminent proceeds from Gareth Bale’s world-record £85 million transfer to Real Madrid, it appears as though Spurs will make their own move for Eriksen and bring the twinkle-toed creator, who has scored 31 goals in 160 matches for Ajax since 2010, to White Hart Lane before the Sept 2 cut-off date.
