Sunderland are reportedly planning a move to sign Tottenham attacker Gylfi Sigurdsson according to the Daily Mail.

The Icelandic international is already something of a bit part player at White Hart Lane and the arrival of a host of new signings is sure to leave the former Hoffenheim man struggling to get a look in and therefore a move to the Stadium of Light could tempt the 23 year old.

Paolo Di Canio may be keen to add more of an attacking threat to his Black Cats squad and this source claims that interest in Sigurdsson is directly linked with the potential exit of Stephane Sessegnon, who is being strongly linked with a move to West Brom.

Sigurdsson moved to Tottenham last July in a £6.8m move but managed just 12 Premier League starts and will now be battling the likes of Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado for a chance at making Andre Villas-Boas’s first team set-up.

The cultured attacker scored seven goals in all competitions last term.
