Premier League sides Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have all been told that highly rated Gil Vicente defender Pericles Santos Pereira will cost them £8 million to buy, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The promising Cape Verde international has been with the Portuguese outfit for only a year now, during which time Pereira, aka ‘Pecks’, has developed a reputation as a tough-tackling central defender with immense promise.

As a result, the trio of Premier League giants have all recently been linked with making a move for the up-and-coming centre back when the transfer window finally reopens for business at the turn of the year.

However City, Spurs and Newcastle have now been warned that the 20-year-old will not be cheap to bring to the Premier League next year, despite his relative inexperience at the top level of European football.

Pecks, who also won his first call-up by the Cape Verde national team last year, has a current contract with Gil Vicente that runs June 30 2017 and as a result, the top-flight giants have been told that they will need to meet the full value of the buyout clause in his deal, estimated at £8m, in order to land the defender.

“The player has a contract until 2017 and we do not have to sell at an inferior price,” said Gil Vicente president Antonio Fiusa.
