Premier League duo to go to war over La Liga youngster.
Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle it out for the signature of Malaga midfield starlet Sergi Darder, according to talkSPORT.
The 19-year-old has been one of the club’s brightest sparks this season and has already made 10 appearances in what is his maiden campaign in top flight football and is causing a stir with a string of fine performances.
And as a result Spurs and City have sat up and taken notice and are now seriously weighing up their options over making a move for the former Espanyol trainee.
Having spent two years in Malaga’s B team he last week put pen-to-paper on a new deal at La Rosaleda, his first professional contract, until the summer of 2017 and that was capped off by him winning his first call up to the Spanish under-21 squad for the first time.
Malaga are keen to retain his services and Spanish newspaper Diario Sur claim City or Spurs would have to cough up £11m to bring him to the Premier League. However, Malaga’s mounting off field debts could force them to take the money and run.
