Serie A champions Juventus have reportedly targeted Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul as the long term replacement for veteran stopper Gianluigi Buffon, according to Inside Futbol.

According to sources in his native Holland Krul has caught the attention of Juve with a string of fine performances this season, and the Italians have been searching Europe for a player capable of replacing the World Cup winner as he enters the twilight of his career.

Buffon has been in between the sticks for the Bianconeri since 2001 and will be 36 in January. His form has come under scrutiny lately and persistent back injuries have stopped him from attaining the same level of performance for which he is famed.

But while the Italian international is keen to continue playing for a few years yet Juve don’t want to want to be scrambling to find somebody to take over from him at the last minute.

Krul has established himself as a top Premier League goalkeeper over the past two years and has even started to make his way into the Dutch national set up winning five caps for his country since 2011.
