Newcastle United are readying a move for in-form Montpellier playmaker Remy Cabella according to the Daily Telegraph.

Such a move may leave many wondering what the future holds for Magpies star Hatem Ben Arfa, who has been in and out of Alan Pardew’s starting eleven this term.

23 year old Cabella has been in excellent form this term, despite his Montpellier side struggling for form, and may be tempted by a move to St James’ Park which could increase his chances of securing a first senior French national team cap.

Montpellier are demanding £14m for Cabella, which is a fair price in today’s transfer market, and a lot will depend on how generous owner Mike Ashley will be when it comes to handing Pardew transfer funds this month.

Pardew is apparently ready to sell the likes of Sylvain Marveaux or Gabriel Obertan to help fund any bid and hope to still keep hold of Ben Arfa, who can of course on his day be a Newcastle United match-winner.

Newcastle United have also been linked with an interest in Man City defender Joleon Lescott as Pardew seeks to strengthen his central defensive options in view of captain Fabricio Coloccini’s knee injury which will see the Argentine out for at least six weeks.
