Though the Etihad Stadium side have been in thrilling form going forward boss Manuel Pellegrini clearly feels there is room for improvement at the back and has made a big money offer for French international Mangala accordingly.
Pellegrini may feel that Mangala would offer his Man City side a long term central defensive partner for captain Vincent Kompany with Joleon Lescott being linked with a move to Aston Villa.
The jury is still out on youngster Matija Nastasic and clearly 32 year old veteran Argentine Martín Demichelis is not a long term option.
22 year old Mangala has been a pivotal part of FC Porto’s recent success, helping the Portuguese side to a Primeira Liga triumph last term and could well be keen on a move to the Premier League.
FC Porto have adopted a lucrative transfer policy of cashing in on their top performers, with the likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez being recent examples of this, though this source claims a January move for Mangala could be problematic.
