Reports in France have suggested that the Magpies have already made their move with a €13m bid, but have so far been unsuccessful in managing to convince the former Ligue 1 champions to relieve themselves of one of their star men.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is said to be on the lookout for a replacement for his own star player Yohann Cabaye, who believes that he won’t be able to keep the wolves from the door for much longer having turned down another bid from Paris Saint Germain for the France international.

Pardew is desperate to keep the 27-year-old at St James’ Park, but recognises that he may not be able to keep the player where he is for too much longer as he is keen on playing Champions LEague football sooner rather than later.

The 23-year-old Grenier plays in the same position as Cabaye and has been identified as a like-for-like replacement, but he is a prized asset to the French club so he won’t be coming cheaply.
