Italian side Inter Milan want to take advantage of their new-found riches to end Erik Lamela’s Tottenham nightmare, reports ITV Sport.

The Argentinian prodigy arrived at White Hart lane last summer for a mammoth £30m from Serie A side Roma, but has completely failed to live up to his either his reputation or his price tag.

Neither former boss Andre Vilas-Boas or current chief Tim Sherwood have trusted the 21-year-old in the Spurs first-team, and Lamela has only been given three Premier League starts all season.

As a result, the South American is reportedly desperate to return to Italy, where he enjoyed a wonderful run of form last term – scoring 15 goals and winning six caps for his country, too.

Indonesian billionaire Erick Thohir recently bought Inter, and it’s well documented that the club will have money to spend on new recruits in the summer.

Spurs will not be able to expect anywhere near the huge fee they shelled out for Lamela, but could be willing to accept a reduced fee and cut their losses on the youngster.

While Lamela is undeniably talented, it’s not often that a foreign player has performed so miserably during a debut season and then went on to make a success of his Premier League career – and a transfer to the San Siro could be the best thing for all parties.
