The 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and there have so far been no talks over offering him an extension.
The Nigerian international has been with the St James’ Park outfit for his entire career and has admitted that leaving the club will be no easy task.
“After the summer, my future is unclear,” he told the Shields Gazette.
“Basically, I’ll do what I’ve always done. Like I’ve always said, I’ve never taken it (playing for Newcastle) for granted. Every time I step on that pitch, I relish it.
“When it does finally end, it’ll be a sad moment, but at the moment my focus is trying to help this club.
“That’s what I’ve always tried to do, and that will never change.”
Ameobi hasn’t started a game for the Magpies since their 3-0 defeat to Sunderland at the beginning of February and his younger brother, Sammy, has since been selected ahead of him for the following defeats to Spurs and Chelsea.
Ameobi has made 388 appearances for Newcastle since breaking into the first team back in 2000 and in that time he has scored 77 goals.
