The former Fiorentina striker only joined the Premier League title contenders last summer in a £22m move, and he is only just beginning to show the kind of form that made City splash out so much on him after some niggling injury concerns have hampered his season so far.
Because of his lack of involvement, speculation over his short term future has been rife and an immediate return to Italy has been mooted. However, since recovering from a hamstring injury he has impressed for Manuel Pellegrini’s men by finding the net in last month’s 5-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur, and also in his side’s 2-0 triumph over Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round.
But Rome have recently signed a partnership with American sportswear giants Nike that will come into effect from next season and they have been instructed to sign a player who is also sponsored by them in order to gain maximum exposure for the brand.
While their first choice is believed to be Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, Jovetic has been identified as a potential alternative.
