Manchester City eye up summer move to bring Moroccan defender to the Etihad Stadium.
Premier League Champions Manchester City want to sign £12 million rated Roma centre-back Mehdi Benatia this summer, reports the Daily Mail.
The Citizens’ boss Manuel Pellegrini is now handicapped in terms of transfer funds in the summer as he will have only have £49 million to spend on players this summer. The situation is rather unusual for City, who are usually known to splash as much cash as required to land their targets.
FFP sanctions on the Eastlands club now mean that they might have to consider an alternative for their prime centre-back target Eliaquim Mangala, who is rated above £30 million by Porto.
Benatia has been very consistent this season for Roma after joining from Udinese last summer, and could provide good defensive cover for the Citizens even if they wish to take the plunge and go after Mangala again.
The 27-year old Moroccan international is seen as a required addition to the City backline as the futures of Martin Demichelis and Joleon Lescott seem to be away from Manchester next season.
