Manchester City head coach Manuel Pellegrini is desperate to sign highly rated FC Porto holding midfielder Fernando for next season as part of a major overhaul of the Premier League champions’ first team squad at Eastlands this summer, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.
The mega-rich Premier League outfit’s experienced Chilean trainer is already busy planning ahead for the new campaign, and top of Pellegrini’s thoughts is understood to how to win next season’s Uefa Champions League.
City were eliminated by La Liga giants FC Barcelona in the knockout rounds last time around and it is believed that Pellegrini sees the purchase of defensive midfielder Fernando when the summer transfer window reopens as being key to the club’s chances of winning Europe’s premier club competition for the very first time next year.
And City are also planning on landing the Brazilian’s team-mate Eliaquim Mangala, as well as Arsenal’s Bacary Sagna, this summer and in order to fund those big-money moves the north-west outfit plan on offloading Javi Garcia and Matija Nastasic.
