The 33 year old has enjoyed a hugely successful season on loan at Everton and will leave Man City in a matter of weeks and will be available on a free transfer.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is keen on signing the England man on a permanent basis and such a move would cost £2.5m by way of a signing on fee with Spurs looking to beat the Goodison Park side to capture the experienced campaigner.
Barry made 32 Premier League starts for Everton last term, helping the Merseyside club to a superb fifth place finish, but one wonders if Tottenham would be able to offer the former Aston Villa man a bigger salary.
Man City brought in Barry in June 2009 and he has made a total of 175 appearances for the club and was a regular in the side that won the Premier League title back in 2011/12.
Tottenham have a wealth of central midfielders in their squad at present so White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy may well look to cash-in on the likes of Etienne Capoue, Sandro or indeed Paulinho ahead of a move for Barry.
