The mega-rich Premier League outfit are known to currently be on the look out for a new central defender to bring to Eastlands for when the summer transfer window does finally reopen for business what with England international Joleon Lescott set to leave the north west on a free transfer on July 1.

And it is also believed that City want to replace the departing Lescott with a fellow Englishman in order to help the club comply with the recently imposed restrictions by Uefa after they were found to have breached the governing body’s Financial Fair Play Regulations.

As a result, City head coach Manuel Pellegrini is said to now be weighing up making a move for Shawcross, who was once again voted as the Potters Player of the Year in the previous campaign, with the England international, 26, set to cost the Blues somewhere in the region of £12m to purchase.
