Serie A boss also wants Brazilian Wolfsburg midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela is a transfer target for Inter Milan, according to club president Erik Thohir.

The 22-year-old Argentina international has endured a difficult debut season in England since joining Spurs from Roma for a reported £25.7m fee in August 2013.

Hampered by injury, he made just nine Premier League appearances, six of which came off the bench.

He started two Capital One Cup games and played six matches in the Europa League, scoring once.

Thohir claims that Lamela is on Inter manager Walter Mazzarri’s wish-list, along with VfL Wolfsburg defensive midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

“Mazzarri likes Lamela and Luiz Gustavo, but everything will depend on the situation of the market,” Thohir told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“In about two weeks we hope to be able announce a new player.”

Lamela has just over four years left to run on his contract at White Hart Lane.

Gustavo is a 26-year-old who has represented Brazil 17 times at senior international level.

He joined Wolfsburg from Bayern Munich last summer.

This season, he started 29 Bundesliga games, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He retained possession well, with a pass success rate of 86.6 per cent.

Although he is most frequently used as a holding midfielder, Gustavo can also operate at centre-back and left-back.

He has been included in Brazil’s 23-man World Cup squad.
