Spurs Open Talks With Southampton Boss Mauricio Pochettino

South American is contracted to St Mary’s until June 2015.

Highly rated young Southampton head coach Mauricio Pochettino is understood to be in advanced talks with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur about the vacant managerial position at White Hart Lane, according to reports on BBC Sport Online.

The north London club recently decided to part company with their previous boss Tim Sherwood, despite the fact that the former Tottenham midfielder had only been appointed to take over from manager Andre Villas-Boas in the capital on an 18-month deal last December.

However, with Sherwood having failed to guide Spurs into a top-four finish in last season’s Premier League, with the north Londoners eventually ending the campaign in fifth place, and so meaning that there would be no Uefa Champions League football at the Lane next season, Sherwood was not surprisingly given his marching orders by chairman Daniel Levy.

And now it is believed Levy wants the Saints’ Argentinian trainer to be the man to take over from the departing Sherwood in the Spurs hot seat next season, with the 42-year-old having now moved ahead of Ajax coach Frank de Boer in the race to land the role.
