The highly rated young manager was confirmed ion his new role with the north London club on a five-year deal on Tuesday afternoon with Pochettino being immediately tasked with trying to extract more from a group of expensively assembled players next season than either of his two predecessors were able to do in the previous campaign.
However, the former Espanyol trainer will also be handed a significant transfer budget by the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy with which to work with this summer, and one of the first names that Pochettino is said to want to go after is the Saints skipper, a player who has already been the subject of one inquiry by Liverpool worth a reported £20m.
But with the south coast club holding out for a fee closer to the £30m mark, Pochettino may now be able to steal in and sign the England international.
