Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Newcastle United have announced their first summer signing.

The Magpies have strengthened their attacking options with the arrival of 20-year-old Spaniard Ayoze Perez.

Perez joins Newcastle from Tenerife, for whom he scored 16 goals in 33 LIGA Adelante appearances in the past season.

Newcastle have not revealed the exact length of Perez’s contract – only that it is a “long-term” deal.

Perez’s arrival is timely because Shola Ameobi has been released from St James’ Park, while fellow forward Loic Remy has to returned to Queens Park Rangers following an impressive loan spell on Tyneside.

Speaking to Newcastle’s official club website, Perez said that he was “very happy” to be starting a “new adventure” with the Premier League side.

He described Newcastle as a “magnificent club” and vowed to work hard to earn a place in manager Alan Pardew’s first team.

Pardew added that Newcastle beat off competition from a number of other clubs to sign Perez.

Newcastle finished 10th in the Premier League this season, despite losing seven of their last eight games in England’s top division.

Meanwhile, Tenerife finished 11th in Spain’s second tier.
