Spurs boss eyes raid on old club.Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino could be set to launch a raid on his old club Southampton for the signing of Liverpool target Adam Lallana, CaughtOffside understands.

The England international has been making the headlines for some time now after enjoying a superb individual season for the Saints in 2013/14, earning a call-up to Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad in the process.

The 26-year-old is now believed to be one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets for this summer, with Brendan Rodgers determined to land the versatile attacking midfielder for around £25m, though Southampton are holding out for closer to £30m.

This may prove too expensive for the Reds, who will consider other targets, but Pochettino remains a big fan of Lallana and will now do his best to bring his old player with him from the St Mary’s Stadium to White Hart Lane as he looks to rebuild the squad he has inherited at White Hart Lane.

Lallana managed an impressive return of 10 goals and six assists this season, and could add something to a Spurs midfield which struggled after the departure of star player Gareth Bale to Real Madrid, with new signings such as Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli failing to make an impact in north London.

With Tottenham also not willing to go quite as high as £30m for Lallana, Pochettino will try his luck in offering Southampton the chance to take one of Chadli, Aaron Lennon or Lewis Holtby as part of an exchange deal, with none of the three midfielders looking like being in his first-team plans for next season.

Holtby spent the second half of the 2013/14 season on loan with Fulham and is likely to be open to a permanent move to another Premier League club after being given little in the way of opportunities at Spurs since joining from Schalke in January 2013.

Lennon, meanwhile, has stagnated after a long career at the Lane, and, like Chadli, could be a good direct replacement in the wide position that Lallana would often occupy for Southampton.

It remains to be seen if Lallana himself will favour a move to Tottenham due to their lack of Champions League football, or if he will hold out for a move to Anfield instead, though that would require an improved offer from the Merseyside giants.
