Check in to Honduras vs Switzerland

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign defensive midfielder Valon Behrami from Napoli, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 29-year-old has three years left to run on his current contract in Naples, but Inter Milan are keen to land him this summer.

Spurs now appear poised to compete with Inter for a player who is currently part of the Switzerland squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Behrami caught the eye during 21 Serie A appearances last season.

English fans may remember him from his two-and-a-half-year spell with West Ham between 2008 and 2011.

Behrami scored four goals in 58 league games for the Hammers, after moving to Upton Park in a £5m transfer from Lazio.

If Behrami were to join Spurs, he would follow in the footsteps of a host of former West Ham players who have switched allegiances to Tottenham this century, including Jermain Defoe, Michael Carrick and Frederic Kanoute.

Behrami has started both of Switzerland’s World Cup group games so far, making six tackles and completing 81 passes.

Switzerland play Honduras this evening and they will qualify for the knockout phase if they better the result of Ecuador, who play France.
