Dazzling World Cup duo in action against Uruguay tonight.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will have scouts watching tonight as Colombia take on Uruguay in the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup, with James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado the main targets.
The two attacking midfielders are among the most impressive players on show at this summer’s World Cup, having also enjoyed superb campaigns for their clubs, AS Monaco and Fiorentina, respectively in 2013/14, and CaughtOffside understands they could now both be major transfer targets for City.
Both players have already been linked with a number of other top clubs, with Cuadrado in particular attracting plenty of attention from Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona as he could be available for a bargain price of just £22m.
The 26-year-old notched up an impressive record of 15 goals and eight assists for La Viola this season, and has looked in equally dangerous form for his country in Brazil so far, scoring once and providing three assists in just three games in the group stages.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, has also caught the eye in this tournament with three goals and two assists in his three matches so far, adding to the nine goals and 12 assists he chalked up in Ligue 1 in his first season for Monaco this term.
Still only 22 years old, Rodriguez is no doubt one of the most talented young players in the world at the moment, and the French giants may struggle to hold on to him as his reputation continues to grow, despite their own financial power in the transfer market that has seen them lure some big names to the club in the last year.
Arsenal and Manchester United have already shown an interest in Rodriguez following his World Cup performances, but City now look ready to step up their interests in signing at least one of these two South American stars as they look to strengthen for next season.
Although Pellegrini already has a healthy amount of attacking options in his squad, it is thought that the Chilean believes he can improve on the likes of Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas, both of whom have often struggled for consistency and who suffer from a tendancy to go missing when it matters.
City also have James Milner as a backup option, but Pellegrini would like to add more flair to his side as he prepares to try and retain the Premier League crown next season.
