Newcastle United are readying a move for Man City bit-part player Micah Richards according to the Daily Star.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew is set to lose the services of French right-back Mathieu Debuchy, who is set to join Arsenal, and as such the St James’ Park side would be wise to bring in a replacement as swiftly as possible and a move for England man Richards is a wise one to consider.

Richards has a year to run on his current Etihad Stadium contract and must surely be considering his options having barely featured in the first team set-up in recent seasons and the arrival of Bacary Sagna from Arsenal will see the defender’s first team chances even more limited.

Newcastle United are hoping to bank £12m from the sale of 28 year old Debuchy and can pick up Richards for as little as £3m, which would represent a real bargain.

Richards has completed ten seasons in the Man City first team set-up and whilst at one point he was a first team regular with the footballing world at his feet his position at the club is now almost untenable and as such a fresh challenge must surely tempt the Birmingham born defender, who featured in just two Premier League fixtures last season.
