Liverpool to sell Lucas to fund a move for Dejan Lovren
The Daily Express are reporting that Liverpool will sell midfielder Lucas in order to fund a £25 m move for Southampton defender Dejan Lovren, who is desperate to complete a move to Anfield.
Croatian star Lovren could become the third Saints players to move to Merseyside this summer, following on from Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana.
Southampton are desperate not to allow another of their star players to leave the club, having also seen full-back Luke Shaw to depart for Manchester United.
Elsewhere, Schalke have denied rumours linking Liverpool with a move for their star striker, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – Sky Sports.
The Reds have also missed out on Napoli and Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain, who remains committed to Napoli – Daily Express.
While another transfer target, Xherdan Shaqiri, is now in talks with Roma – Daily Star.
However, Liverpool are close to sealing the signature of Benfica winger Lazar Markovic and the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona – ESPN.
